Il Sudan è alle prese con una delicata fase di transizione democratica, dopo il crollo del regime di Omar al-Bashir (per trent’anni presidente del Sudan e capo del Partito del Congresso Nazionale. Destituito con un colpo di stato cruento l’11 Aprile 2019, dopo quattro mesi di massicce proteste popolari che ne revocavano la rimozione dal potere). Il Paese, sospeso tra il mondo arabo e Africa nera, cruciale per gli equilibri dell’intera regione, è scosso da manifestazioni di piazza che chiedono riforme e giustizia ai generali dell’esercito alla guida del Paese. In diverse città sudanesi nei giorni scorsi si sono registrati scontri. L’episodio più cruento è avvenuto il 3 Giugno, quando migliaia di sudanesi si sono radunati a Khartoum, per ricordare il secondo anniversario della sanguinosa repressione militare. La protesta è sfociata in disordini che, secondo fonti della società civile, hanno causato almeno 128 vittime tra i manifestanti che chiedevano una transizione civile, dopo la deposizione dell’ex presidente Omar al-Bashir da parte dell’esercito. Il bilancio degli scontri non è stato confermato dalle autorità, che negano di aver usato violenza nei confronti dei manifestanti. La situazione nel Paese permane tesa.
